Small Step #23. Give Yourself (and others) Grace
Enter Grace. Literally, Saving Grace. Being a Christian, “Grace” is supposed to be an important word in my lexicon, but to be honest, I am just beginning to understand it and its magnitude.

Recognizing that “honor” is my ultimate goal usually informs me as to what my next best decision should be. Once I was able to define “honor” was the goal, I could evaluate my actions against it.
You know those donuts in the office break room would taste delicious, but you also know they’re not on your plan for getting to your health goals. Who wants to tell themselves “No” in this situation?
The thing is, it took me a while to figure out that getting healthy is not something that happens in a check-the-box-straight-line. Or even a predictable line. Unlike my favorite 5K route, there’s no exact path to follow with clearly flagged turns and hazard markers
Taking that first baby step made all the difference. It inspired another step and another. Soon, before I knew it, I had wobbled my way from the sofa to the coffee table and back and I was on my way to feeling more confident and self-assured about my wellness progress.
“We’ll get there when we get there!” is one of my favorite quotes from “The Incredibles” movie. But when it comes to my weight loss journey, sometimes I’d just like to GET THERE to Goal Weight, you know? Lately, however, I’ve realized that what’s happening along the path to that Magic Number is just as important as that Goal.
